Warriors Battle No. 9 Thomas More, Build Momentum for Rio Grande Matchup

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Indiana Tech men's rugby team faced one of the toughest challenges of its young program on Saturday, traveling to Crestview Hills, Kentucky, to take on Thomas More University. The Saints are a perennial powerhouse in the Big Rivers Rugby Conference and currently ranked inside the top 10 nationally in NCR Division I.

From the opening whistle, the Warriors matched Thomas More's physicality and energy.  The Warriors' early discipline and effort kept them within striking distance, and at halftime the Saints led just 10–0.

The second half turned when Indiana Tech was forced to play short-handed after a pair of yellow cards left the team down a man in both halves. The Saints capitalized on those opportunities and pulled away for a 45–0 win.

Despite the final score, the match highlighted important growth for a young Warriors squad. Indiana Tech showed strong defensive urgency, physicality at the breakdown, and improved chemistry in attack, areas the team is determined to keep building on as the season continues.

Coach Sam DiFilippo had this to say after the game, "Thomas More is a top program for a reason, and our guys met that challenge with real effort in the first half. The scoreline does not tell the whole story. We learned a lot about our shape, our discipline, and our ability to respond to adversity. We will clean up the details, get everyone game ready, and carry this growth into Rio Grande."

Indiana Tech now turns its focus to its next conference matchup against the University of Rio Grande on Saturday, October 11. The Warriors will look to build on the lessons learned against a top-tier opponent and continue their climb in one of the most competitive small-college rugby conferences in the nation.
