RICHMOND, Ky. – The Indiana Tech baseball team split a seven-inning doubleheader with Midway to open the season, winning game one 10-7 before falling 3-2 in game two.
Midway scored first in game one, using an RBI double to take a 1-0 lead. Indiana Tech responded with a run in the second.
Derek Ruiz drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game at 1-1.
Midway answered with a run in the bottom half of the second to take a 2-1 lead. In the top of the fourth, an RBI single by
Garrett Rainey tied the score at 2-2.
Midway's bats exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-2 lead.
Indiana Tech answered in the top of the sixth. An RBI single by
Noah McEldowney made it 7-3, and
Ben Morrison followed with a two-RBI double to make it 7-5.
Brycen Hannah then delivered an RBI single to make it 7-6. An RBI single by
Dane Richards tied the game at 7-7, and a sacrifice fly by
Jack Ferguson put the Warriors ahead 8-7.
An RBI fielder's choice by
Ben Morrison in the seventh made it 9-7. A double steal then allowed
Jorge Santana to score, giving Indiana Tech a 10-7 lead.
Midway never threatened in the bottom of the seventh as Indiana Tech opened their season with a 10-7 win in seven innings.
Dane Richards led Indiana Tech with three hits.
Ben Morrison had two hits, including a double, and three RBI. Both
Jorge Santana and
Keelan Dunkle stole a base.
Noah Redmon got the start, allowing two runs in four innings of work while striking out five.
Kade Robinson threw 0.1 innings in relief.
Kaden Plank was the winning pitcher, throwing 1.2 scoreless innings.
Colton Leatherman threw a scoreless seventh for the save.
Game two was scoreless until the third, when Midway plated a pair to make it 2-0.
In the top of the fourth, another double steal allowed
Noah McEldowney to score to make it 2-1.
In the top of the sixth, McEldowney came around to score on an error to tie the game at 2-2.
The score remained tied until the seventh, when Midway used an RBI single for the 3-2 walk-off win.
Noah McEldowney led Indiana Tech with two hits and two stolen bases. The Warriors stole five bases in the game.
Austin Byford got the start, allowing two runs in four innings.
Dean Sommer followed with five strikeouts in two scoreless innings.
Gary Glaser III took the loss, allowing a run in 0.2 innings.
Indiana Tech opens the year 1-1. The Warriors take on Midway in the rubber match on Saturday.
