SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's rugby team opened its 2026 spring 7s season this weekend at the Fighting Irish 7s in South Bend, competing in the Division I Premier bracket for the first time in program history.
After competing in the D1AA club bracket a year ago, the Warriors made the jump to the top level of collegiate 7s competition, facing three high-level programs in pool play.
Indiana Tech opened the day with a tightly contested 12–10 loss to Iowa Central. The Warriors showed early promise, with tries from
Ashton Skarie and
Noah Allen in a match that came down to the final moments.
In their second match, Indiana Tech fell 40–12 to Kentucky.
German Gonzalez and
Drew Stauffer each crossed for tries, while
Dakota Faulkner added a conversion.
The final pool play match came against tournament host Notre Dame Fighting Irish, where the Warriors dropped a 47–7 decision. Max Ledbetter accounted for the lone try and added the conversion.
Despite a 0–3 pool record, Indiana Tech responded in the final match of the day, earning a 27–19 victory over Notre Dame's second side to secure 13th place.
Crew Kaylor led the scoring effort with two tries, while
Luca Hubley,
Noah Allen, and
Kaden Hasty each added one. Hasty also contributed a conversion.
The Warriors finished the day 1–3 overall, gaining valuable experience against premier-level competition as they continue to establish themselves at the highest level of collegiate 7s.
Indiana Tech will look to build on that experience next weekend as they travel to the Boilermaker Sevens on Saturday, April 4 in West Lafayette.
