@IndianaTechVB Wins Second Straight, Downs UM-Dearborn 3-1

Box Score DEARBORN, Mich. –The Indiana Tech volleyball team won its second consecutive match on Wednesday night with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-13, 25-21, 25-14) victory over UM-Dearborn in WHAC competition at the UMD Fieldhouse.

The Warriors (6-15, 3-2 WHAC) fell behind early and never led in the first set, hitting just .083 while the Wolverines (7-16, 1-4 WHAC) hit .171 in the game and won 25-21. Tech tallied 10 kills in the set getting three each from Katelyn St. Martin and Alexis Morrison, but the Orange and Black also committed seven errors in their 36 attempts.

In game two it was a much different Tech team as the Warriors won five of the first six points and didn't let up, winning the game 25-13, having zero ties in the game. Tech hit .175 in the set, tallying 14 kills with four from Christine Foest, Stacy Nagy and St. Martin. Taylor Kelso was big in the back row collecting nine digs while Logan Penick added seven and St. Martin chipped in with six.

The two teams battled back and forth in the third set, tying 11 different times, the last coming at 21 all, when an attack error by the Wolverines gave Tech the lead that they would not relinquish. Two kills by St. Martin and an attack error sealed the win for the Warriors. Tech hit a match-high .220 in the game and had 15 kills with St. Martin accounting for four and Nagy and Morrison each tallying three. Kelso again led the way with six digs.

In the final set, the Wolverines fought hard and had a lead until the 10-10 mark when the Warriors went on a 15-4 run to win the match with a 25-14 victory. Foest was the difference maker in the final set as she tallied five kills on six chances, committing zero errors while St. Martin chipped in with three kills and two digs. Kelso added to her match-high 25 digs with seven in the final game.

St. Martin finished with a match-high 14 kills while Foest tallied 10 and led the team with a .474 attack percentage. Nagy added nine and Morrison finished with eight digs while hitting .462. Kelsey Fitzpatrick was the leading setter with 27 assists while Emileen Palka added 14.

Kelso's 25 digs were tops on the squad while St. Martin tallied 14 and Penick added 13. The Warriors tallied four blocks led by three block assists from Shanice Richards.

The Warriors will look to continue their winning ways this weekend as they host the six-team, Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament on Friday, Oct. 4 and Saturday Oct. 5. Tech opens play at 2 p.m. on Friday against Shawnee State before squaring off against 18th-ranked Georgetown at 6:30 p.m.
