Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Despite a third consecutive double-double from Chelsea Carradine, the Indiana Tech women's basketball team finished 0-2 in the SportONE Classic, falling 70-63 to Spring Arbor on Tuesday in the Schaefer Center.

It was a back-and-forth first half as neither team was able to break away. Carradine got the scoring started, but the Cougars (7-7) responded with an 8-2 run to take a four point lead. Tech (9-6) was able to stretch the lead to five at the 9:26 mark, 16-11, but a 17-4 run by SAU gave the Cougars their largest lead of the game at eight points, 28-20, with 3:07 left in the first. The Orange and Black finished the period strong with a 10-2 run, to trail 32-30 at the half.

The Warriors played well in the first half, shooting 11-for-29 (37.9%) from the floor, 3-for-9 (33.3%) from behind the arc and 5-for-6 (83.3%) from the free throw line, however, early foul trouble put the Cougars in the double bonus, leading to SAU going 11-for-14 (78.6%) from the charity stripe, while shooting 30 percent (9-for-30) from the floor and just 30.8 percent (4-for-13) from the three-point line. Ulyssia Richmond led the warriors with 12 first half points while Sabine Filippovica had a team-high six rebounds. Kylie Townsley led the Cougars with 14 first half points.

The second half was a see-saw battle for the first 17 minutes of the period, with seven ties and four lead changes, but with the Warriors ahead one, 55-54 with 3:10 to play, the Cougars' Kylie Townsley scored six consecutive points to give SAU a five point lead that they would not relinquish. Tech got to within three several times in the final two minutes, but turnovers and missed opportunities led to the 70-63 defeat.

Tech won in the paint, outscoring SAU 26-18 inside, while also holding a decisive advantage in bench scoring, 24-6. However, the Cougars forced 17 turnovers and turned them in to 24 points while the Warriors forced just seven mistakes, scoring five points off those turnovers.

Other than turnovers the Warriors played well, shooting 40 percent (22-for-55) for the contest including a 4-for-14 (28.6%) mark from long range while going 15-for-16 (93.8%) from the free throw line. The defense played well too, holding the Cougars to 20-for-64 (31.3%) from the field, 7-for-25 (28%) from three and a 23-for-29 (79.3%) mark from the charity stripe.

Carradine paced the Warriors will 19 points and a game-high 11 rebounds while Richmond provided 14 points off the bench and Rayana Villalpando added 13.

Unfortunately, Tech had no answer for Townsley who finished with a game-high 28 points and collected nine boards.

In the first game of the day, the top-ranked Cougars of St. Francis (Ind.) defeated Trinity Christian 104-65.

The Warriors return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Saturday, Jan. 4 when they host Northwestern Ohio at 1 p.m.
