Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. –The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team suffered a setback against Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe, Aquinas, falling in three sets (22-25, 19-25, 24-26) on Sunday at the Schaefer Center.
The Warriors (2-11 (1-1)) suffered yet another three set loss on the season after a promising start Tech just couldn't string together a rally to put the Saints (2-3(1-1)) away in game one. The Orange and Black seemed to be in control in game one after falling behind 1-2, the Warriors went on a six-point run to take the lead 7-2. The trouble came as the Saints began to attack and a string of net violations by the Warriors gave Aquinas some free points, allowing them to wrestle the momentum from Tech and win the first game 25-22.
In set two it was all Aquinas as the Saints scored the first five points and six of the first seven to take a 6-1 lead. The Warriors did what they could to fight back and chip away, but they couldn't string together a rally of more than three points, falling in the set 19-25.
In the third and final set the Warriors put up their best fight as the two teams were even for most of the match with neither team taking more than a four point lead, that being the Warriors when they led 9-5. However, the momentum was all on the Saints side as Aquinas made some great plays to keep points alive and stay in the match. Tech had the serve to win with a 24-23 lead after an Aquinas service error, but an Elle Sturgell kill evened the score and the Saints forced two attack errors by
Christine Foest and
Cassandra Sarabia to nail down the win, 26-24.
Katelyn St. Martin led the Warriors in kills for the match with 10 while Foest led the team with a .333 attack percentage with nine kills in 18 chances.
Kelsey Fitzpatrick tallied a team-high 16 assists while
Alexandra Roberts added 10.
Taylor Kelso was stellar in the back row again with 15 digs while Sarabia added 10. The Warriors tallied just three blocks in the match and struggled to get in a rhythm the entire day.
The Warriors return to action on Friday, Sept. 20 at 4 p.m. when they face St. Ambrose in the first game of the Holiday Inn Invite hosted by Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill.
