Box Score | FORT WAYNE, Ind. –The Indiana Tech men's soccer team lost its conference opener, 5-1, to Davenport on Saturday. The Panthers improve to 7-2, 1-0 in the WHAC while the Warriors fall to 5-2-1, 0-1 in the conference.

The Warriors got off to a good start as took an early 1-0 lead. The Orange and Black missed several point blank opportunities but continued to push and eventually their efforts paid off as Stuart Mitchell drilled home a Zachary St. Aubin rebound for the 1-0 lead.

Six minutes later Davenport got the equalizer from Jai Maw off a set piece from the corner. Maw took the corner kick on the far side and was able to bend the ball inside the far post for the goal.

The Panthers played possession soccer in the first half and had the ball for most of the period, outshooting the Warriors 11-8 in the period, however, the teams were even in shots on frame with three a piece. DU had the advantage in corners though, 6-2.

It took 14 minutes to break the tie as the Panthers caught the Warriors off guard on a quick play after an injury delay. DU played the ball quickly down the field where Jacob Love played a cross to the top of the 18 where Dzenan Catic received the pass and promptly beat Tech keeper Reece Richardson for the lead, 2-1.

The momentum swung to the Panthers side as they increased their lead to two, 3-1, as Love netted a goal with an assist from TJ Ifaturoti. Love took the pass at the upper left corner of the box and beat Richardson across is body for the goal.

The Panthers continued to poor it on in the second half, scoring twice in the 87th minute as the Warriors defense began to tire. The fourth goal of the game for the Panthers was the second of the day for Dzenan Catic who was played on by Dino Duratovic, then beat Richardson one-on-one for the goal. The second came off the foot of Duratovic who took the pass from Chris Rassel and beat the defense for the fifth goal.

The Warriors chances were few in the second half as they were outshot 17-5 in the period and were dominated 10-3 in shots on frame. Davenport finished the contest with nine corner kicks to Tech's three, while Richardson finished the game with eights saves and Mirza Harambasic tallied four.

The Warriors return to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 28 when they travel to Lima, Ohio to face WHAC foe Northwestern Ohio.
