Box Score 2 CLEVELAND, Tenn. –The Indiana Tech volleyball team lost both matches it played on Friday at the Lee Invitational in Cleveland, Tenn., dropping both in three sets.
Tech falls to 1-9 on the season, but continues to show improvement while Lee moves to 1-1 and Coastal Georgia improves to 7-3.
Match One
The Warriors opened play at the Lee Invitational with a three set loss (19-25,22-25, 15-25) to Coastal Georgia on Friday afternoon.
Tech struggled on offense again, although they are headed in the right direction, as they hit just .179 as a team, however, it is the second best mark of the season.
Suzanne Taylor led the team in hitting percentage with a .350, recording eight kills in 14 chances, while
Stacy Nagy led the squad in kills with nine.
Alexandra Roberts and
Kelsey Fitzpatrick recorded nine and eight assists, respectively.
The Orange and Black tallied the fewest digs of the year with 27 in the three sets, led by libero
Taylor Kelso who tallied eight. The defense held strong at the net as Tech tallied the second-most blocks on the season with nine, led by Nagy who collected four solo blocks while
Shanice Richards and
Christine Foest each tallied one assist and three solo blocks.
"They put us to the test and at times we played well," said Tech Head Coach Kourtney Volkmer. "If we can correct our errors we will be there at the end of the year."
Match Two
The Warriors had another tough match on Friday night, dropping three sets (19-25, 22-25, 15-25) to the host Lee Flames.
Taylor had another stellar match, leading the team in kills with nine while Foest added seven. Roberts again led the squad in assists with 12 while Fitzpatrick added eight.
On defense, Kelso, Fitzpatrick and
Katelyn St. Martin each tallied eight digs to lead the Orange and Black.
"Lee is a very tough team, but I am encouraged by the improvements we are making," added Volkmer. "We have played a tough schedule early on and it will pay off down the road, especially when we start conference play."
The Warriors return to the court tomorrow as they conclude play in the Lee Invitational with a 12:15 p.m. match against Bryan.
