Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. – With four players in double figures, the Indiana Tech women's basketball team made quick work of the University of Michigan – Dearborn in a dominating 81-41 victory at the Schaefer Center on Wednesday night.
The Warriors (12-9, 9-4) never trailed in the contest, on their way to their third straight victory. The two teams traded baskets in the early going, tying at four, but it was all Tech from there as the Orange and Black outscored the Wolverines (3-16, 2-11) 44-16 the rest of the way. The Warriors scored 20 points in the paint and had 12 points off turnovers compared to 12 and two points, respectively, for UMD.
Ulyssia Richmond led all scorers with 13 first-half points while
Rachael Kruse added 12 for Tech. Jalissa Williams was the top scorer for UMD with 12 points.
It was much of the same for the Warriors in the second half as Tech used 18 points in the paint and 10 points off turnovers to outscored UMD 33-21 in the second period to account for the 40-point, 81-41 victory. The Warriors also outrebounded the Wolverines 41-28 in the contest, 23-15 in the second half.
Tech finished the contest shooting 54.4 percent (31-for-57), including a 70.4 percent mark in the first half. The Warriors finished the contest 5-for-15 (33.3%) from three and 14-for-21 (66.7%) from the free throw line. The defense limited the Wolverines to just 31 percent (18-for-58) from the field, including a 2-for-18 (11.1%) mark from behind the arc. UMD also attempted just three free throws in the contest, making all of them.
Kruse and Richmond finished with 20 points each, a game-high, while
Chelsea Carradine recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Sabine Filippovica just missed a double-double of her own, scoring 10 points and grabbing eight boards.
Williams paced UMD with 18 points and 10 rebounds, her WHAC leading 12th double-double of the season.
The Warriors return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 25 when they travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to face 24th-ranked Aquinas at 1 p.m.
