FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team played their most complete game of the season in a 1-0 loss to No. 20 Siena Heights at Warrior Athletic Field on Saturday. The Warriors overall ledger stands at 6-5 with an 0-3 mark in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play while the Saints improve to 11-1 overall and 3-0 in conference action.
Playing in cold, blustery conditions, both teams had an emphasis on possession throughout the contest. Tech attempted the first three shots of the match, with the Saints keeper making two saves with the third shot missing wide of an open net.
Following three corner kicks SHU got their first shot of the contest, but the defense blocked the shot before it reach frame. It took another 20 minutes, but the Saints made the most of their second opportunity. A Kelsey Young corner kick, in the 40th minute, found the head of Jori Bitter, who snuck the ball inside the far post for the games only marker, making it 1-0 Saints.
The two teams played the second half to a stalemate thanks to solid play by their keepers. Warriors' senior goalkeeper,
Bre Wojnarowski, made two diving stops early in the second half to keep it a 1-0 game, giving the Warriors an opportunity to even the score. Tech had several chances in the half, the best coming in the 60th minute when
Courtney Lakes got a head on a service from a
Tori Singstock corner kick, but the Saints keeper was up to the task.
Tech outshot Siena Heights 8-6 in the contest with both teams putting five on frame. The Saints attempted five corners to just two for Tech.
"This was out most complete game of the season," said Warriors Head Coach
Jim Lipocky. "We had a few chances, but just couldn't finish. I'm proud of the way we competed today. If we continue to play this way the wins will come."
The Warriors will look for their first WHAC win on Wednesday, Oct. 8 when they travel to Detroit, Mich. to face Marygrove with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
