DETROIT, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team outshot their opponent for the second straight game, but found the net just once in a 2-1 loss to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe, Marygrove on Wednesday.
The Warriors (6-6, 0-4 WHAC) controlled possession in the early going, attempting eight shots and two corner kicks to just three for the Mustangs (2-9-1, 1-2-1 WHAC) in the first 25 minutes of play, but in the 27th minute, Cheyenne York found the net on Marygrove's fourth shot, making it 1-0.
It took 20 more minutes for the Warriors to net the equalizer on the second goal of the season for
Jessica Zurcher. The sophomore received a pass in the box from
Tori Singstock and beat the keeper inside the far post to even the score a one a piece.
It was a more evenly matched second half with both teams having several opportunities in the early going. After 30 minutes of trading shots and possession, York tallied her second marker of the contest for the game-winning goal, 2-1. Tech had an opportunity for the equalizer in the 83rd minute when
Courtney Lakes headed the ball off the crossbar, the last real threat for the Warriors.
Tech amassed 17 shots, putting nine on target while the home team tallied just nine shots, putting six on frame. Bianca Barron made nine saves for the Mustangs with
Bre Wojnarowski stopping four shots for Tech.
Singstock led the Warriors with seven shots, six on frame while also tallying an assist with Zurcher scoring on her lone shot of the contest.
The Warriors return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 11 when they travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to face No. 14 Davenport at 4 p.m.
