GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Led by a trio of undefeated wrestler, the eighth-ranked Indiana Tech wrestling team went 4-0 at the Argo Duals hosted by Great Falls (Mont.) at CMR High School on Friday night.
Tech opened with a win over Northwest Wyoming College before toppling third-ranked hosts, Great Falls (Mont.) followed by victories over Cumberland (Tenn.),, who is currently receiving votes, and No. 4 Montana State-Northern.
In the first dual of the day the Warriors got off to a fast start winning the first three weight classes.
Erique Early won his opening match via a 10-5 decision, earning three points before
Brett Yarbrough took a 12-3 major decision at 133 for four points.
Matthew Miller registered a fall at the 30 second mark to make it 13-0 Tech after three. After losing six points via fall at 149-pounds, the Orange and Black took the next four weight classes including a pair of six point victories via a fall by
Jacob Johnson at 165-punds and a forfeit for
Brandon Sunday at 184 to seal the 31-15 win.
The second dual of the day pitted the Warriors with the third-ranked Argos in a true road test and the Warriors answered the call in a big way, upsetting the home team, 40-5. The lone points for UGF came at 141-pounds via a tech fall. Early got the match started with a 14-6 major decision for four points and Yarbrough followed with his first fall of the day at the 1:21 mark to earn six points at 133-pounds. After giving up the points at 141, Tech won the next seven points including a pair of falls and a forfeit for the final margin.
Tech took on the Bulldogs of Cumberland, who is receiving votes in the coaches' poll, and registered its third win of the day, 33-14. Early once again opened the dual with a victory, a 13-4 major decision, followed by a 9-2 win by Yarbrough for a 7-0 lead.
Robert Humphrey then registered a fall at 3:54 in the 141-pound weight class and Roadruck followed with his third win, another fall at 5:35 in the 149-pound class making it 19-0 Tech. CU won three of the next four classes, but the Orange and Black closed the dual with two wins to cap the 33-14 win.
The final test of the day proved to be the toughest as the Warriors squeaked past fourth-ranked Montana State-Northern, 24-22, to finish 4-0. Early suffered his first loss of the day to open the event but Yarbrough, Miller, and
Thomas Garty followed with three consecutive falls at 133, 141 and 149 pounds to make it 18-3 Tech. Roadruck rounded out his perfect day with an 11-9 decision to make it 21-3. The Skylights didn't back away winning the next four matches, including a pair of falls to take a 22-21 lead. It all came down to the heavyweights at 285-pounds and it was
Kegan Clark-Sanchez who earned a 12-8 victory and three points to give the Warriors the win.
