Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Rontray Chavis' career night helped push the Indiana Tech Men's Basketball team to an 86-72 victory over Marygrove at the Schaefer Center on Thursday night.

The Warriors (15-10, 10-7), who reached their 10th conference win with the victory, never trailed in the contest; using an 11-2 run in the opening four minutes for a quick nine point lead. The Mustangs (2-23, 1-16) didn't go away easily though, using a 13-6 run of their own to cut the lead to two, 17-15. Tech came right back though as Parker Stouffer hit back-to-back layups to push the lead back to six. After trading baskets for much of the remaining 10 minutes, the Orange and Black were able to stretch the lead to 11, 42-31, before a JuJuan Armstrong layup at the buzzer cut the halftime lead to nine, 42-33.

Tech won in the paint, outscoring Marygrove 32-22 in the painted area and also outrebounded the Mustangs 23-20, despite being outscored 7-4 in second-chance points. Chavis finished the half with 13 points and nine boards while Armstrong paced the visitors with nine points and seven rebounds.

The Orange and Black started the second half much like the first, using an 11-4 run to extend the lead to 16, 53-37, just five minutes into the half. A spurt by Marygrove over the next six minutes cut the lead down to five, 63-58 with 8:08 to play, but a pair of Nick Lewis free throws stopped the momentum and sparked another 11-0 run by the Warriors to go back up 16, 76-60 and 78-62, with a pair of dunks from Antwan Cathey. Tech then hit their free throws down the stretch and freshman Laurence Mifsud sank a layup with 41 seconds to go, his first career points, to take a game-high 18-point, 86-68 lead. Two Mustang layups in the final minute accounted for the final 14-point margin.

The Warriors finished the contest with 60 points in the paint while shooting 59.6 percent (34-for-57) from the floor, 50 percent (3-for-6) from three and 57.7 percent (15-for-26) from the charity stripe. Meanwhile, the defense held Marygrove to 40 percent (32-for-80) shooting including a 21.4 percent (3-for-14) mark from behind the arc and just nine free throw attempts. Tech also won on the boards, collecting 48 in the win while Marygrove tallied 34.

Chavis finished the contest with a career-high 30 points and 21 rebounds while Cathey added 14 points and Lewis finished with 12. Stouffer also finished in double-digits with 10.

Armstrong paced the Mustangs with 19 points and nine rebounds.

The Warriors return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 8 when they travel to Lima, Ohio to face Northwestern Ohio. Tip is scheduled for 3 p.m.
