GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's tennis team advanced to the NAIA Unaffiliated Group Tournament semifinals on Saturday, defeating fifth-seeded Ashford. 5-1.
The victory means the Warriors will square off against top-seeded Aquinas at 9 a.m. at the Farmer's Athletic Complex on the campus of Davenport University.
Tech registered three points in doubles action as all three pairs won their matches. WHAC First-Team All-Conference honoree,
Joaquin Ferrando, and Honorable Mention selection,
Alberto Tenias, teamed up for an 8-6 victory at No. 1 while Tech won 8-4 at No. 2 and 9-8 (7-5) at No. 3.
In singles action Ferrando dispatched Carlos Pico, 6-0, 7-5 while Honorable Mention selection,
Sriram Aranganathan won at No. 2, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3. The final match of the day to finish was
Gaston Raposo who fell at No. 6 singles, 7-5 6-4.
Tech and Aquinas will now meet for the second time this week with a chance to play for the regional championships at 5 p.m. on the line.
