Box Score 2 WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team concluded play in the Wyndham Classic on Saturday, finishing the tournament 2-2, falling to Grace, 2-3 (25-15, 20-25, 25-23, 21-25, 14-16) before defeating IU-East, 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-15) at Grace College.
Shanice Richards and
Christine Foest were both named to the All-Tournament Team for their play.
In the first match, the Warriors suffered a heartbreaking five set defeat to the host Lancers (3-0) losing their three games by a total of 11 points. Tech won games one and three, 25-15 and 25-23, respectively, while dropping the other three, including a 14-16 decision in the decisive fifth game.
In the two sets they won, the Warriors hitting percentage was better than .130, while it dipped below that number in their losses. Tech started strong, hitting .367 (14-3-30) in the first set and .132 (14-9-38) in the third. The Warriors finished the contest hitting .152.
Stacy Nagy led the offense with 20 kills while also adding four blocks. Richards added 13 kills and four blocks as well with Foest tallying 12 kills.
Emileen Palka led the setters with 28 assists while
Karli Jones tallied 25.
Taylor Kelso and
Katelyn St. Martin each paced the defense with 20 digs.
In their final match of the preseason tournament, the Warriors registered their second three-game sweep of the season. Tech hit .303 for the match including a .333 (12-4-24) mark in the final game.
St. Martin paced the offense with 11 kills and a .474 hitting percentage while also tallying three aces, all team highs. Foest and Nagy each added nine kills with Richards collecting seven and adding five blocks to lead all Warriors.
Palka and Jones each collected 17 assists while Kelso tallied 12 digs followed closely by St. Martin's 11.
The Warriors will take a week off, returning to action on Friday, Aug. 29 when they travel to Marion, Ind. to take part in the Wildcat Invitational. Tech will face Bethel (4 p.m.) and No. 20 Indiana Wesleyan (8 p.m.) on Friday before taking on St. Francis (Ind.)(10 a.m.) and Marian (2 p.m.) on Saturday.
