@IndianaTechVB's Foest's Career Night not Enough in Five Set Loss

Box Score  | ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Christine Foest tied a career-high with 21 kills, the fourth most in a match in Indiana Tech volleyball history, but it wasn't enough to defeat Concordia in Ann Arbor on Wednesday, a five set loss.

In the first set, the Warriors (6-4, 1-1) used a four-point and three-point run to take a 13-5 lead over the Cardinals (6-3, 1-1), but an eight-point run from the home team gave Concordia the 15-14 lead. A Stacy Nagy kill tied the score at 15 and another three-point run by Tech, highlighted by a pair of Katelyn St. Martin kills, gave the Orange and Black a 20-17 lead. Up 24-20, the Warriors received a Hannah Staples serve and a set from Karli Jones was placed perfectly for Shanice Richards who ended the set with a kill.

The Warriors continued to dominate the match in the second set, jumping out to a 7-1 lead with a pair of kills by Foest. A pair of Cardinals' runs tied the score at 17 and after giving up the lead at 19-18, the Warriors rode Arrianna Cumberledge's serve to five straight points, before Foest pounded the final kill of the set for a 25-21 win.

The third set featured 11 ties with neither team able to string together more than three straight points, however, the final run came as the home team tallied the final three points of the contest for a 25-20 win. The Warriors used a five-point lead to take an early 5-3 advantage in the fourth game, but the Cardinals won 20 of the final 36 points to win their second set, 25-21.

The Warriors offense couldn't get on track in the final set, tallying more than one consecutive point just twice, before falling 15-9, suffering their first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference loss.

Foest led the offense with 21 kills, hitting .378 (21-7-37) while Richards added 12 kills and Nagy finished with 10. Jones continued to play well as the team's setter as the freshman collected 44 assists.

Tech tallied 13 total blocks in the match, led by Nagy's seven (3 BS, 4 BA). The Warriors also amassed 79 digs with Libero Taylor Kelso collecting 23 to lead the team with St. Martin adding 16 and Elizabeth Mathews finishing with 11.

The Warriors return home for the first of three consecutive WHAC contests in the Schaefer Center on Friday, Sept. 12 when they host Aquinas at 7 p.m.
