Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team swept Michigan-Dearborn 3-0 Wednesday night at the Schaefer Center before a packed crowd in the team's Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference and home opener. The Warriors won each set convincingly, 25-8, 25-10 and 25-16, respectively.
The Warriors (6-3, 1-0) recorded 11 kills in both the first and last sets and out-dug the Wolverines (0-5, 0-1) 37-22 on the night. The Warriors edged their opponent in almost every category including kills (30-12), assists (27-10) and aces (12-5). Tech started the match with a .474 hitting percentage and finished the match at .279 while holding UMD to a -.145 mark.
Cassandra Sarabia led the team in kills with eight and
Shanice Richards added seven and led the team with a .700 (7-0-10) hitting percentage. Both
Christine Foest and
Katelyn St. Martin had 15 attacks, while
Karli Jones registered five aces on the night.
Defensively,
Taylor Kelso had 11 digs followed by St. Martin with 10.
"We played great tonight," said Warriors Head Coach
Kourtney Wilson. "We had an amazing crowd and our players really fed off their energy. It's great to win our WHAC opener and we'll look to build off our recent success."
The Warriors face their first WHAC road contest on Wednesday, Sept. 10 when they travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan to face Concordia at 7 p.m.
