@INTechMBB Survives Wolverines Second Half Surge

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – In what was a tale of two halves, the Indiana Tech men's basketball team improved to 23-1 since 2003 against University of Michigan-Dearborn, winning the last 18 meetings with a 67-64 victory on Dan Kline Court in the Schaefer Center on Wednesday night.

The Warriors (8-12, 5-7 WHAC) got off to a fast and promising start as a Chester McFadden scored eight straight points with Franklin Lindsey adding five to propel Tech to a 15-0 lead, with the defense holding the Wolverines (6-12, 3-8 WHAC) without a basket until the 9:33 mark. The visitors cut the lead to nine, with a 12-6 run over the next three minutes, however, the Orange and Black scored 16 of the final 24 points in the half to take a 17-point, 37-20 lead into the break.

The Warriors started well in the final 20 minutes, scoring five of the first seven points to push the lead to a game-high 20 points, 42-22. The offense went cold though and UMD got hot, using a 12-2 run to cut the lead to just 10, 44-34 with 14:54 to play. A pair of three-pointers by Lindsey and Tanner Watkins pushed the lead back to 16 and Tech maintained a double-digit lead until the 8:35 mark when the Wolverines scored nine unanswered points to cut the lead to just six, 60-54. Watkins gave Tech some space with a big three, but UMD answered back and scored 10 of the final 14 points to cut the margin to three. The Warriors survived a pair of late three-point attempts to snap a two-game skid.

Tech finished the contest shooting 50 percent (25-for-50) from the floor, 48 percent (12-for-25) from behind the arc and 71.4 percent (5-for-7) from the free throw line. At the other end, UMD finished 26-for-59 (44.1%) from the field, 7-for-23 (30.4%) from long range and just 5-for-11 (45.55) from the charity stripe. The Wolverines won on the glass 34-29 and outscored Tech inside 34-20 but the Warriors tallied seven second chance points to just three for UMD.

Lindsey finished with a career-high 21 points with McFadden adding 15 and Tyrece Edwards tallying nine. Jeremy Wohltman and Lindsey each tallied seven rebounds to lead the team.

The Warriors look to win back-to-back games for the third time this season when they return to action on Saturday, Jan. 17 with Aquinas coming to the Schaefer Center for a 3 p.m. tip.
