@INTechMBB's Lindsey Nets Sixth Double-Double in Loss

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Franklin Lindsey recorded his sixth double-double and the Indiana Tech men's basketball team had three players in double-figures, but it wasn't enough as they fell to Aquinas 72-62 at Dan Kline Court in the Schaefer Center on Saturday night.

It was a back and forth first half that featured four times and six lead changes with neither team leading by more than five points in the opening 20 minutes. All four ties came in the first eight minutes with Tech forcing all four at 2, 4, 9 and 18 points. The Warriors (8-13, 5-8 WHAC) took the lead after two of those to lead 11-9 and, after tying at 18, scored the next five points with Tyrece Edwards netting a pair of free throws and Lindsey knocking down a three-pointer, to lead 23-18. The Saints (12-8, 8-4 WHAC) scored 11 of the next 13 points to go up four, 29-25, and didn't trail the rest of the contest. A Jeremy Wohltman jumper cut the deficit to two and Laurence Mifsud's jumper, followed by Jared Bloom's three-pointer both got the margin to just one point, but the Warriors couldn't take the lead. Aquinas scored the final four points of the half at the free throw line to go up five, 37-32.

The Saints blitzed Tech with an 8-2 run to open the second half, but the Warriors didn't back down and continued to chip away. After the visitors took their largest lead of the game, 12 points, the Orange and Black responded with three straight baskets to cut the deficit to six, 55-49, with eight minutes to play. The teams traded jumpers and threes, keeping the margin between six and nine points until a Chester McFadden trey cut it down to five. That's as close as Tech got as the Saints hit their free throws down the stretch for the final margin.

Offensively the Warriors shot 43.1 percent (25-for-58) from the field, 30 percent (6-for-20) from behind the arc and 75 percent (6-for-8) at the charity stripe while grabbing 31 rebounds and dishing out 12 assists. The defense struggled though as the Saints shot 44 percent (22-for-50) from the floor including a 53.8 percent (7-for-13) mark from long range. Aquinas also went 21-for-25 (84%) from the free throw line.

McFadden finished with a team-high 16 points while Lindsey had 10 points and 16 rebounds. Edwards also finished in double figures with 10 points and was two rebounds shy of a double-double with eight.

The Warriors wrap up their three-game homestand against Marygrove on Wednesday, Jan. 21 with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The game is part of Coaches vs. Cancer's Suits & Sneakers week in which schools around the country will raise money and awareness for this deadly disease. There will be several ways in which you can participate at the game.
