ADRIAN, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team forced a season-high 30 turnovers and had three players score in double figures in a 69-55 overtime loss to No. 20 Siena Heights at the SHU Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.
The Warriors (11-12, 10-6 WHAC), who had their worst shooting night of the season, scored the game's first points on a
Taylor Carver layup, but the Saints (18-5, 12-3) scored the next six to go up by four. Tech cut the lead to two and the game remained that way until back-to-back jumpers by Lindsey Masnari gave the Orange and Black a 12-11 lead. After an SHU basket made it 13-12, the Warriors scored seven straight points to build a six-point lead. The home team charged back with six unanswered points to tie the score at 19 and outscored the Warriors 11-8 the rest of the half to lead by three, 30-27, at the break.
Tech was ready to play in the second half, scoring the first six points and 13-of-16 to push the lead to seven, 40-33. The teams traded baskets for the rest of the half, with SHU getting to within one point several times, but the Warriors were always able to answer until the 2:59 mark when the Saints hit a pair of free throws to tie the score at 48.
Shallante Clements hit a pair of free throws to give Tech a two point lead and, after SHU 1-for-2 from the line;
Rayana Villalpando hit a pair of foul shots, following a Saints turnover, to put the Warriors up three, 52-49, with 11 seconds to play. Tech looked to have the game won, but SHU converted a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game to overtime.
The home team scored first in the extra frame and Carver answered with a jumper, but the Saints took control, outscoring the Warriors 15-1 the rest of the way for the 69-55 margin.
For the first time this season, the Warriors shot under 23 percent in a game, finishing 17-for-75 (22.7%) from the field while failing to make a shot from behind the arc (0-for-11) for the first time since Jan. 19, 2008 (0-for-7). Tech finished 21-for-30 (70%) from the charity stripe while grabbing 48 rebounds and scoring 21 points off 30 SHU turnovers. The Saints finished 22-for-55 (40%) from the floor and 3-for-18 (16.7%) from long range while going 22-for-31 (771%) at the line.
Carver finished with a team-high 16 points with Masnari adding 12 and Clements finishing with 10. The latter also had a double-double with 10 rebounds while Carver added seven boards and five steals.
Tech returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 4 when they welcome Cornerstone, who is receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' Poll, to the Schaefer Center with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Live coverage of the game is available at
