JOLIET, Ill. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team went split a pair of matches on Saturday at the University of Saint Francis (Ill.) Big Guns Classic. Tech defeated the hosts in the afternoon session, 3-1, (33-31, 25-21, 26-28, 25-18) after falling in the morning match to Marian University (Ind.), 3-0, (25-19, 25-22, 25-17).
Jazmin Martin led the Warriors against the Fighting Saints with 16 kills while
Cassie Sarabia added 12 kills and four aces.
Katelyn St. Martin recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs and
Taylor Kelso added 23 digs.
Karli Jones had a game-high 29 assists.
After battling through the first three sets with Saint Francis, the Orange and Black found themselves down 14-7 before going on a 17-2 run, including an eight-point run, to put the game away and come away with a split for the day.
In the morning session,
Gabby Staggs had 10 kills and three total blocks, while Kelso added 12 digs. Sarabia had nine digs and six kills and St. Martin added seven digs and six kills.
The Knights forced the Warriors into 23 errors while hitting .265 for the match, including a .320 clip in the first set. Up 12-7 in the second set, the Warriors saw the Knights would win 15 of the next 21 points to go up 23-19 and would eventually take the 2-0 lead.
Tech (12-10) returns to WHAC action on Wednesday when they travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan, for a battle with Concordia. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
