FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team fell to crosstown rival University of Saint Francis, 2-1, in overtime on Monday night at Warrior Athletic Field.
 
Tech had all the momentum in the opening 20 minutes of the game, outshooting the Cougars 4-0 and controlling the ball in the offensive zone. The Warriors would get on the board in the 23rd minute when Mitch Smith put one in off the post following the cross in by Zachary St. Aubin.
 
In the second half however, the visitors took control of the game and turned it up on offense, outshooting the Orange and Black, 14-10, and tying the match in the 54th minute when Tyler Sidwell's shot from 15 yards out deflected off a Warrior defender and ricocheted into the back of the net.
 
Both sides had opportunities to end the game in regulation, but strong play from Tech keeper Logan Kelly and USF goalie Christian Gehring sent the game into overtime.
 
Sidwell would score again just 46 seconds into the extra time when his head connected with a free kick from Alexis Ferreira da Silva and brought his teammates out from the bench as they stormed the field in front of a shocked crowd.
 
Kelly finished the match with four saves as his record fell to 4-10-1. Mitch Smith led the Orange and Black in shots (five) and shots on goal (three), while Andrew Higgins, Ruben Leonardo and St. Aubin all recorded three shots.
 
Tech (4-11-1) returns to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action on Wednesday when they travel to Adrian, Michigan, for a battle with Siena Heights. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from O'Laughlin Stadium. Links to live video and stats will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
