FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team fell to Cornerstone, 3-2, in double overtime on Saturday night on a chilly and rainy Senior Night at Warrior Athletic Field.
Brandon Dinsmore broke the scoreless tie in the 44th minute when he pounced on a ball that bounced off
Ryan Hayhurst's chest inside the box and sent it home for his second goal of the season.
The Golden Eagles would respond in the second half with two goals just three minutes apart as the rain started to come down in droves. In the 58th minute, Mbeki Johnson took the cross from Blake Groll and shot it back across from
Logan Kelly. Then in the 61st minute, Diego Bobadilla missed a penalty kick, but in the ensuing scrum, was able to get it past the line to give the visitors a 2-1 advantage.
The lead was short-lived however, as
Matt Robinson took advantage of a pass from
Andrew Higgins and his shot ricocheted off the post and into the net for the equalizer in the 66th minute.
Both sides had chances to end the game in regulation, but Kelly and Cornerstone keeper Nick Hopkins stood tall in their respective nets.
After the first overtime went scoreless, Johnson broke the hearts of the Warrior faithful when he beat Kelly for his second goal of the game in the 103rd minute to give the Golden Eagles the 3-2 victory.
Kelly finished the game with eight saves, while
Richard Doll and
Mitch Smith each recorded two shots on goal.
