Warriors Struggle at Siena Heights Crossover

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Sunday at the Siena Heights Crossover, falling to No. 22 Madonna in four sets (29-27, 21-25, 25-20, 25-21) and losing in three sets (25-19, 25-16, 28-26) to the host Saints.

The Warriors hung tough with the 22nd ranked Crusaders through the first two sets, but were beset by 24 errors in the final two games. Tech led 21-19 in the fourth set and was poised to send the match to a fifth set, but three straight attack errors by the Orange and Black gave Madonna a 22-21 lead and forcing head coach Kourtney Wilson to call a timeout. It would not be enough to rally the troops however, as the Crusaders won the next two points to complete the victory.

Cassie Sarabia led the Warriors with a game-high 15 kills, while Jazmin Alexander added 13 and Katelyn St. Martin recorded nine. St. Martin would also tally two aces and total blocks. Taylor Kelso had a game-high 24 digs, while Karli Jones and Autumn Stokes would dish out 26 and 20 assists, respectively.

In the second match against the Saints, Tech struggled at the net at both sides, committing 24 errors while the hosts finished with nine blocks.

With the Warriors down 24-22 in the third set, the visitors rattled off three straight points behind kills from Sarabia, Briyanna Axtell and Gabby Staggs and get to set point. After a Siena Heights timeout, the Saints were able to tie it up at 25-all and again at 26 before taking the next two points to complete the sweep.

Sarabia would again lead the Orange and Black with a game-high 18 kills, while Jones dished out 20 assists. Kelso would record a game-high 18 digs and St. Martin had 10 digs, seven kills and two more aces.

Tech (20-13, 12-7 WHAC) finds themselves in a three-way tie for third place in the WHAC standings with Cornerstone and Davenport heading into the final week of the regular season. The Warriors face a tough test on Wednesday when they travel to Sylvania, Ohio, to take on undefeated and 18th ranked Lourdes. Match time is set for 7 p.m. and links to live stats will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
