FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team gave tenth ranked Indiana University East all it could handle, but the Red Wolves made a late comeback to get the 64-61 win on Tuesday evening at the Schaefer Center.
The Warriors jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first five minutes thanks to a jumper from
Miles Robinson, a three-pointer from
Jantzen Goodwin and a pair of free throws from
Dominique Walls.
IU East would struggle to get buckets in the first half, only converting 29 percent of their shots while Walls hit six of his 10 shots in the opening 20 minutes to score 16 of his game-high 22 points.
The Warriors would push their lead to as many as 20 in the first half and went into the locker room on an 18-12 run.
It was Tech who would go cold in the second half however, only shooting 20.7 percent from the field and would go over seven minutes without a field goal as the Red Wolves would outscore the hosts 24-14 over the final 10 minutes.
A field goal from Lucas Huffman tied the game with 2:33 to go and after trading free throws, Domonique Walls gave the visitors their first lead of the game with 1:26 to go as he hit a jumper in the corner for a 59-57 lead. The Warriors had multiple chances to tie the game, but couldn't get their shots to drop as the Red Wolves escaped with the win.
Walls added nine rebounds and a pair of steals to go along with his 22 points.
Miles Robinson added 12 points, five rebounds four assists.
Scott Schwieterman had seven points and six rebounds while
Lavonte Davis added six points and seven rebounds.
Tech (4-3) continues its break from Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action when they host Rochester College on Sunday at the Schaefer Center. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. and links to live video and stats will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
