UPLAND, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team bounced back from a tough loss on Tuesday at Purdue Calumet to pick up their first victory of the year on Friday night on the road at Taylor, 73-64, at Odle Arena.
The Trojans would jump out to a 7-0 over the Warriors in the first two and a half minutes of the game, but the Orange and Black would battle back to tie things up at 15 by the end of the first quarter as
Taylor Seiss would hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer.
Tech would fall behind again early in the second period, but
Baylee Rinehart would collect her own miss off a free throw and make an ensuing three-pointer to give the Orange and Black their first lead of the night with six minutes to go until halftime. The visitors would head into intermission with a 32-27 advantage.
The hosts would come roaring back in the third quarter though, using a 5-0 run to take a 41-40 lead at the 5:12 mark. The two sides would trade points and head into the final quarter of p lay all knotted up at 48.
A 14-6 run by Tech to start the fourth would give the head coach
Jessie Biggs squad a 69-55 lead with under five and a half minutes to play and the Warriors would pull away for the win, though it wasn't the final buzzer that ended the game.
With 20 seconds left in the game, a fan behind the Indiana Tech bench suffered an apparent heart attack and play was halted. The fan received medical attention and was taken to a local hospital, but no other details have been released.
Taylor Seiss led all scorers with 21 points and dished out a team-high four assists.
Taylor Carver added with 17 points on 6-11 shooting, including a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line, and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds while
Kendall Knapke chipped in 10 points and five rebounds.
Tech (1-1) opens its home slate on Monday when they welcome T-No. 9 Marian to the Summit City for a nonconference battle. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. from the Schaefer Center, and links to live video and stats will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
