FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team fought valiantly but came up short against crosstown rival (RV) Saint Francis, 86-69, on Tuesday evening at the Schaefer Center.
Taylor Seiss lead the Warriors in scoring with 13 points while grabbing six rebounds and dishing out three assists.
Kendall Knapke and
Taylor Carver each chipped in 11 points while Knapke added six rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
Haley Cook had 10 points while
Rayana Villalpando had nine.
The two teams traded baskets over the first two-and-a-half minutes of the game with the Orange and Black taking their only lead at the 7:42 mark of the first quarter, but the Cougars used a 12-3 run to close the opening period with 27-18 lead.
The hosts would use a 12-6 run to end the first half and cut the Saint Francis lead to 44-39 as the teams headed into the break.
The Warriors would stay close throughout the third period, but couldn't get closer than four points and fell behind 62-54 headed into the final 10 minutes of play.
The Cougars flexed their muscles in the final quarter as they outscored the hosts 25-15 and used a 9-2 spurt to take a 16 point lead with 90 seconds left to ice the game.
Tech (9-5, 6-1 WHAC) has a short turnaround as they welcome in Bethel College to the Summit City for an afternoon matinee. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. from the Schaefer Center and links to live video and stats will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
