FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Indiana Tech women's basketball team hosted their annual "Think Pink" game to raise awareness for Breast Cancer on Wednesday night, falling to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe, second-ranked Davenport, 72-48 in the Schaefer Center.
The crowd and both teams wore pink to honor those affected by Breast Cancer while also participating in a 50-50 raffle with the proceeds being donated to the American Cancer Society in Fort Wayne.
The game began as a back-and-forth affair as the Warriors (12-15, 11-8 WHAC) opened the scoring on a
Taylor Carver layup. The Panthers (25-0, 19-0 WHAC) answered with four straight points but a layup from
Shallante Clements tied the score and a
Baylee Rinehart free throw put Tech in front. After another DU burst, Tech cut the deficit to one, 8-7, but the Panthers then widened the lead, outscoring the Warriors 28-11 the rest of the half, leading 36-18 at the break.
The Warriors made a couple runs in the second half, including scoring the final four points of the contest, but Davenport always had an answer and never lost control. Tech's struggles from long ranged continued, hitting less than two three-pointers for a fourth-straight contest while shooting 32.7 percent (17-for-52) from the field and 13-for-20 (65%) at the charity stripe. The Panthers finished the contest 29-for-57 (50.9%) from the floor and hit just four three-pointers in the contest.
Carver finished with a team high 12 points and 10 rebounds for Tech with Lindsey Masnari adding nine points, all in the second half. Rinehart and Clements finished with seven baskets each while three Warriors tallied five rebounds.
Before the game, the Warriors dedicated the game to individuals they know that have been affected by cancer and those dedications are available
here.
The Warriors return to action on Saturday Feb. 14 when they host the Racers of UNOH for Senior Day. Indiana Tech will honor a pair of seniors in
Shallante Clements and Kelsey Lilla before the game. Live coverage will be available on the Indiana Tech Sports Network at
