Box Score BOX SCORE | FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's tennis team took to the courts for the first time in 2015 and recorded a convincing 8-1 win over the University of Saint Francis (Ill.) at the Wildwood Racquet Club on Sunday.
The Warriors (2-0) registered two team points in doubles action as
Mikel Oscoz and
Fernando Sousa won their match, 8-3 and the team of
Joaquin Ferrando and
Alberto Tenias got a point via forfeit, giving the Warriors a 2-1 lead heading into single action.
The Orange and Black earned a point at No. 6 singles via forfeit and
Alberto Tenias won at No. 5 singles due to injury, meaning Tech needed just one more point for the dual win. They got that point in a pair of quick straight set wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles. Ferrando won at the top spot, 6-0, 6-4, while newcomer
Nicholas Aguirre won in the four spot, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Sousa also won in straight sets, however, his match was a bit closer, taking set one 7-6 before a more convincing 6-1 win. Oscoz won his opening set at No. 3 singles, 6-4, but dropped the second, 6-7, before winning the tiebreak, 11-9.
The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, Mar. 21 as they begin Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play against UNOH in Lima, Ohio. The time of the match has yet to be determined.
