FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team saw its 2014-15 season come to an end on Saturday at the MU Activities Center, falling to Madonna 78-62, just missing a bid to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament.
It was senior night for the Crusaders (14-16, 10-12 WHAC) who used the early energy to jump out to a 5-0 lead.
Franklin Lindsey answered for the Warriors (10-20, 7-15 WHAC) as the junior knocked down a jumper get Tech on the board and sparked an 11-2 run by the Orange and Black to take a four-point led. An MU three-pointer cut the advantage to one but a pair of baskets and a free throw pushed the margin back to seven before a
Tanner Watkins three and
Chester McFadden layup extend the lead to nine, 21-12 and made the Tech run 21-7. The home team responded with 16 consecutive points to turn the Warriors lead into a seven point deficit but a
Josh Fleming layup and
Arben Camaj trey cut the margin to two. The teams traded baskets for several minutes, but after a Fleming three-pointer made it a three-point contest, the Crusaders scored the final eight points of the half to go up 11, 46-35, at the break.
Tech put up a fight in the second half, but the offense couldn't get rolling as the Crusaders added to their lead. A Watkins three-pointer answered the Crusaders to start the half and the teams traded points until MU strung together four baskets to make it a 19 point game. The Warriors put together a couple six point runs in the half, but each time were met with six straight from the home team, eventually falling 78-62.
The Warriors finished the contest 21-for-64 (32.8%) from the field, 9-for-28 (32.1%) from behind the arc and 11-for-14 (78.6%) from the line and scored 20 points off 17 Madonna turnovers.
Tech had three players score in double figures led by Flemings' 17. The freshman guard also had a team-high six rebounds while senior
Jeremy Wohltman tallied 12 points in his last game for Tech. Watkins finished with 11 points for the Warriors.
