Box Score RESULTS | FORT WAYNE, Ind. – In the latest chapter of bragging rights in the city of Fort Wayne, the Indiana Tech men's tennis team did their part, sweeping the Cougars of St. Francis (Ind.) 9-0 at the Wildwood Racquet Club on Friday night.
The Warriors started with a sweep of doubles action as
Joaquin Ferrando and
Nicholas Aguirre teamed up to topple Matt Stallman and Nathan Barger, 8-4 while teammates
Fernando Sousa and
Mikel Oscoz defeated Tate Dishman and Payton Selking at No. 2 doubles by the same score. In the final doubles match,
Vinicius Silva and
Alberto Tenias defeated Daniel Harrold and Tyler Baugher, 8-2.
Sousa gave the Warriors the 4-0 lead with a quick 6-0, 6-1 victory over Stallman at No. 2 singles while three other straight set victories from Aguirre (6-1, 6-3), Tenias (6-3, 6-2) and Silva (6-1, 6-1) gave the Warriors the win with a 7-0 lead.
At No. 5 singles
Kino de Leon defeated Harrold in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 10-8 before Ferrando, who is ranked 15th in the East region, dispatched Barger at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 7-6.
The Warriors improved to 4-1 on the season and will play host to No. 23 Indiana Wesleyan when they return to action on Tuesday, Mar. 31. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Wildwood Racquet Club.
