BRIEF: The Indiana Tech baseball team handed the second-ranked Davenport University Panthers their first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference loss of the season, splitting the doubleheader, 11-5 and 8-15. The Warriors and Panthers combined for 39 runs on 55 hits in the two games, including seven home runs on a beautiful day at Warriors Stadium on Saturday.

FLOW:
GAME 1
The Warriors offense got to work quickly as Dezmon Nunn drew a leadoff walk and, after advancing to second on a Mark Carpenter sacrifice, scored on an RBI single by Romer Portes to a 1-0 lead. After Chase Keathley worked around a trio of hits in the second and an error in the third, the Warriors added to the lead in the bottom of the frame.

Carpenter got things started when he reached first on a wild pitch after striking out, scoring on a Derek Morgan two-run single, as Portes also scored after doubling.

Three doubles and an error cut the Tech lead to two in the fourth and a solo home run for the visitors in the fifth made it a one score game, but the offense answered. Portes singled to lead off the inning and scored two batters later on a Matt Bandor single and a Panthers error.

Another Tech error plated a DU run, but Dezmon Nunn homered on a line drive to left field, scoring Ryne Terry, to make it 7-4 Warriors. The Orange and Black put the game out of reach in the eighth when DU elected to intentionally walk Portes to load the bases on Brian Hakes responded with a grand slam over the right-center field wall for a seven-run lead.

A sacrifice fly plated a run in the ninth for the Panthers, but the Warriors came away with the upset win, 11-5.

GAME 2
Davenport sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring seven runs on seven hits and an error for an early lead. Then, after a blown call at third went against the Warriors in the bottom of the frame, the Panthers added two more runs in the second.

Four hits and two errors led to three more Davenport runs and 12-run deficit for Tech. The Warriors didn't quit those as Hakes homered for the second time in the third, blistering a ball over the left field fence, scoring Nunn to make it a 10-run contest. DU added another tally in the fourth, but Tech hung a crooked number in the bottom of the frame, scoring six runs to cut the deficit to five.

Tech got five hits in the inning, highlighted by a Portes two-run single and a three-run home run by freshman catcher Tighe Koehring onto Anthony Blvd.

The Panthers added two more runs on three hits in the sixth to ice the game.
