BRIEF: The Indiana Tech baseball team showed its true grit and toughness on Sunday at Warriors Stadium, despite being swept by No. 2 Davenport, 12-1 (8) and 10-8 (10). The Warriors battled in the second game, scoring in the bottom of the seventh and bottom of the eighth to extend the contest, but a blown call and timely hitting by the Panthers ended the game.

FLOW:GAME 1The Panthers scored in each of the first five innings, taking a 7-0 lead after 3.5 innings. The Warriors got their lone tally in the bottom of the fourth as
Derek Morgan drove in
Romer Portes, but Tech left two runners on base in the frame.

Davenport added runs in the fifth and eighth, tallying 17 hits to defeat the Warriors.

GAME 2One hit and a Warriors error led to a Davenport tally in the first, but Tech responded in the second with four runs on four hits.
Matt Bandor scored on a
Steve Remesnik single and
Dezmon Nunn delivered a two-out, 3-run home run to put the Warriors up 4-1.

The Panthers cut the lead in half with a third inning tally, but the Warriors answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame as
Tighe Koehring drove in Portes to make it 5-2.

Four Davenport hits and an error led to four unearned runs in the fourth and put the visitors ahead, 6-5. Two more errors led to another unearned run and put DU up two in the fifth.

Portes connect for his eighth home run to lead off the bottom of the fifth and cut the deficit to one and then tied the game with one out in the bottom of the seventh with his ninth home run, another solo blast.

A Davenport home run in the eighth, the first extra-inning, gave them the lead, but Koehring doubled to lead off the Warriors half of the eighth and his pinch runner,
Mark Carpenter, came around to score two batters later on Remesnik's one-out, RBI single.
After a scoreless ninth, the umpires missed what would've been the third out when a DU player was hit swinging at the third strike. The next guy up delivered a two-run single that proved to be the game winner.

BY THE NUMBERS:
GAME 1The Warriors collected just five hits, led by Portes' 2-for-3 game, he also scored the lone run.

The two teams combined for seven errors in the contest and
Clay Wallace fell to 1-5, allowing nine runs, six earned, on 12 hits in five innings.

GAME 2Tech belted out 16 hits in the loss, three each by Nunn, Portes and Koehring while Morgan added a pair.
Â
Portes finished with two RBIs and three runs scored while Nunn drove in three and Remesnik had a pair of RBIs.

The Warriors made five errors in the contest, allowing six unearned runs

James McReynolds got a no-decision, allowing seven runs, one earned, on nine hits with three walks and nine strikeouts over seven innings.
UP NEXT:Â The Warriors return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 14 with a non-conference doubleheader against Bethel (Ind.) at Jenkins Baseball Stadium in Mishawaka, Ind. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
