LOCATION: New Haven, Ind. (Havenhurst Park)
Â
BRIEF: The Indiana Tech softball team had a chance to walk-off with their first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory of the season in the second game of the twin bill against Lourdes, but it wasn't to be as the Warriors dropped both games to the Gray Wolves, 12-5, 7-5. Tech outhit Lourdes 12-7 in game two but defensive miscues gave Lourdes the win.
Â
FLOW:GAME 1Neither offense got much going until the fourth when Lourdes sent 13 batters to the plate, scoring nine runs on nine hits with the help of three Warrior errors. Tech got a run back in the bottom of the frame as
Sofia Johantgen led off the inning with a single and scored on a
Jessica Cotton single to cut the deficit to eight.
Â
Two errors by the Gray Wolves allowed the Warriors to plate a run on one hit in the fifth, but the big hit never came for the Warriors.
Â
In the seventh, after a pair of strikeouts, Lourdes strung together two walks and a pair of hits to push the lead to 10, 12-2. The Warriors mounted a comeback in the seventh as Alexis Vargo drew a walk and Johantgen singled with two outs to set up a Cotton 3-run home run that accounted for the final score.
Â
GAME 2After Lourdes plated a run in the top of the first, the Tech offense came to life, plating three runs on six hits for a 3-1 advantage.
Jamie Kilps led off with a single and scored two batters later on Hanna Foltz's two-run home run. Four of the next five batters reached with
Kaitlyn Lipinski delivering a two-out RBI single to increase the lead.
Â
The Orange and Black added to the lead in the second when
Jenevie Rivas plated Johantgen to make it a three-run lead, 4-1. It lasted until the fourth when nine of the first 10 Lourdes batters reached base, taking the lead with six runs on five hits and two errors in the frame.
Â
Both offenses went quite again until the bottom of the seventh where Foltz led off with a double and scored on a Lourdes error three batters later. A
Tori Simper double put
Alli Watson on third, but the Warriors comeback was ended with a pitching change and a pop up to the shortstop.
