BRIEF: The Indiana Tech softball team took Madonna, who is receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' Poll, to extra innings in game one of their Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader, but were done in by the long ball, dropping both contests.
Jenevie Rivas pitched well in her first start of the season while
Jessica Cotton delivered a game-tying home run to send game one to extra innings.

FLOW:GAME 1The Crusaders opened the scoring with three hits and a run in the first before adding a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings to take a 3-0 lead.
Â
In the bottom of the sixth, Cotton drove a home run over the left field fence, a three-run shot, to tie the score.
Â
After neither team scored in the seventh, the game went to extras and the Crusaders go a leadoff home run that proved to be the game winner.
Â
GAME 2Jamie Kilps led off the contest with a single, but a double play quickly changed the inning and the Crusaders captured all the momentum in the second with a two-out home run and the early lead.
Â
Alli Watson collected a two-out single in the second, but didn't get any further and in the fifth Madonna used four hits to plate five runs and break the game open, 6-0.

The Crusaders added three more runs on five more hits in the fourth for the nine-run advantage.
Â
Tech looked to cut into the lead in the fifth as Rivas led off with a single, but the offense stalled again in the loss.

BY THE NUMBERS:
GAME 1The Warriors had two hits and a walk, but scored three runs led by Cotton's 2-for-2 effort with three RBIs and a run scored.
Â
Rivas (0-1) took the loss in her first start of the season, despite pitching a complete game, allowing four runs, three earned, on 12 hits with six strikeouts and one walk in eight innings.

GAME 2Tech tallied just three hits, one each from Kilps, Rivas and Watson
Â
Katie Bird (0-3) got the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits with a pair of walks and two strikeouts in three innings
Â
UP NEXT:Â The Warriors will celebrate senior day when they return to the field on Saturday, Apr. 18 against Michigan-Dearborn in New Haven, Ind. at Havenhurst Park. First pitch of the WHAC doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
