Â
BRIEF:Â The Indiana Tech softball team narrowly pulled out their first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference win in 2015 on senior day Saturday afternoon, but ultimately fell to Michigan-Dearborn, 6-5 in game one and 6-3 in the second. The offense struggled and couldn't take advantage of some Wolverine miscues in the sweep.
Â
FLOW:GAME 1After Michigan-Dearborn stranded the bases loaded in the first, the Warriors took advantage of three Wolverine errors to plate five runs in the bottom of the inning.
Bailey Dembinski got things started with a leadoff walk and after a hit-by-pitch and another walk, catcher's interference plated the Warriors first run. A two-out, RBI single from
Alli Watson added to the Tech lead and then
Jamie Kilps cleared the bases as she hit the ball through the legs of the shortstop, scoring Watson,
Juliaclare Plezbert and
Jessica Cotton.
Â
Jenevie Rivas cruised through 2.1 innings, but in the third, three hits and a walk led to three Wolverine runs, ending her day.
Â
The score remained 5-3 until the fifth, when
Jamie Kilps ran into trouble. Three walks loaded the bases with two outs and a pair of singles put UMD ahead, 6-3. The Warriors had chances in both the sixth and seventh, getting two runners on in each inning, but couldn't get the tying run home.
Â
GAME 2The Warriors scored first again in game two, without a hit, as Dembinski led off with a hit-by-pitch and scored three batters later on a wild pitch. It looked as though it would hold up as
Tori Simper cruised through four innings, but ran into trouble in the fifth.
Â
A walk and an error put runners on the corners and a two-run single gave the visitors the 2-1 lead. Three more hits in the sixth led to four more UMD runs to push the lead to five.
Â
The Orange and Black began to rally in the sixth as
Hannah Foltz was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Watson followed with a two-run home run to left center to cut the lead to three, 6-3. The Orange and Black put two more runners on with a pair of walks, but the Warriors couldn't get another run in.
