BRIEF: One day after scoring 39 runs in 14 innings, the Indiana Tech baseball team split with Siena Heights, falling 5-2 in game one before taking the second of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference twin-bill, 9-3.
James McReynolds continued his solid season, improving to 3-2 with the game two win.
FLOW:GAME 1For the third straight game the Warriors scored in the first inning, getting a pair of runs on RBI singles from
Romer Portes and
Matt Bandor, but that's all the offense could muster for starter
Clay Wallace.
Â
A solo home run in the bottom of the inning cut the lead in half and an RBI double followed a fielding error in the second to tie the score for the Saints with an unearned run.
Â
The Warriors had two on in both the fourth and fifth innings but couldn't get a run in and the Saints took advantage of an error and several walks in the sixth as a two-out bases loaded walk put the home team ahead and a two-run single accounted for the final margin as Tech got just three baserunners the rest of the way.
GAME 2Tech scored runs in four of the seven innings to take three of the four games from SHU. Neither offense got going until the third when the Warriors plated two runs on four hits. Portes delivered a one out, two-run double to score
Brian Hakes and
Dezmon Nunn for a 2-0 lead.
Â
Four more hits plated four more runs for Tech in the fourth as
Zach Fyfe and Hakes each drove in a run and Portes drove in two more for a six run advantage. Siena Heights got four hits of their own in the bottom of the frame, but scored just two runs in the inning.
Â
In the fifth, a pair of Warriors were hit by a pitch and a double play following an infield single added another Tech run. The Orange and Black added on in the sixth when two hits and two errors allowed the Warriors to score a final pair of runs.
Â
The Saints added a run in the sixth, but got no more as the Warriors got another WHAC win.
