Schlender, @INTechGolf Women Defend WHAC Titles, Earn NAIA Bid

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The 13th-ranked Indiana Tech women's golf team punched their ticket to the 2015 NAIA Women's Golf National Championship on Tuesday as they successfully defending their Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament title with a final round 331.
 
The event was held at the Coyote Creek Golf Club and featured two days of extremely windy and blustery conditions with the tournament average at 94 strokes per round. The Warriors final round was made even more impressive considering that two golfers were ill and one was battling a back injury.
 
Tech won the event by 15 strokes with a 54-hole total of 986 (329-326-331), led by two-time individual medalist, Wiebke Schlender. The sophomore from Paderborn, Germany was the only player to shoot under 81 in the final round, carding her second 79 of the tournament to finish with a two day total of 238 (80-79-79). She finished the event second in pars (30) and par 4 scoring (+12) while finishing third in birdies (3) and par 3 scoring (+3).
 
Fellow sophomore, Courtney Dye, held her position, finishing second with a final round 81 to complete the 54-hole event with a 243 (79-83-81), five strokes behind her teammate. The Williamsburg, Mich. native led the field with 31 pars and a par 3 scoring average of two-over par while finishing third in par 4 scoring (+16).
 
Freshman Bailey Bostler slipped one spot in the final round, finishing fourth after carding an 85 to finish the tournament with a 248 (84-79-85). The Lake in the Hills, Ill. native led the tournament with four birdies while finishing tied for fourth with 23 pars. She was 10th-best in par 3 scoring (+8) and tied Dye for third in par 4 scoring (+16).
 
Fellow freshman Breanna Post battled an injury throughout the second round, but was able to remain in the top-10, tying for 10th with a two day total of 257 (86-85-86) finishing the final round with an 86. She tied for sixth in par 3 scoring (+7) and tied for eighth in par 4 scoring (+21) while tallying two birdies and 19 pars in three rounds. Senior Rachel George wrapped up the scoring for the Warriors with her third consecutive 93 to finish the event with a 279 (93-93-93).
 
The 338-yard, par-4 fourth hole saw a tournament high eight birdies, but played the second easiest behind the 311-yard, par-4 fifth hole that had an average of .73-over par. The tournament's hardest hole was the 516-yard, par-5 15th hole that played 1.88-over par and saw no birdies.
 
Tech won the event, besting second-place Madonna who finished with a 1001 (330-339-332). Lawrence Tech moved up two spots on the final day to finish third with a 1037 (352-340-345) while Siena Heights (346-345-354=1045) and UNOH (348-343-361=1052) rounded out the top five.
 
The Warriors will wrap up the 2014-15 season in Pooler, Ga. at the Savannah Quarters Country Club, site of the 2015 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships, May 12-15.
