BRIEF: The Indiana Tech men's tennis team pushed their first round opponent, Cornerstone, to the brink in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament, but ultimately fell, 5-4. Four singles matches went three sets while No. 1 doubles also took a tiebreak to settle.
 
FLOW:
In doubles action, the Warriors pair of Fernando Sousa and Mikel Oscoz gave Tech the 1-0 lead with an 8-5 win over Samuel Ottosen and Austin Hendrick. A loss at No. 3, 8-6, tied the score and the Warriors top pair, Joaquin Ferrando and Nicholas Aguirre nearly put Tech ahead, before falling 9-7 (8-6).
 
Sousa continued to play well in singles action, winning 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 2 position to tie the score. Ferrando followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Elijah Yi to put the Orange and Black in front. A three set loss by Oscoz at the third position, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0, tied the score, but Tech got another victory at No. 6 as Alberto Tenias battled back from a first set loss, 2-6, to take the final two, 6-3, 6-2.
 
Cornerstone tied the match at four with a win at No. 4, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, and it came to the No. 5 position where Austin Hendrick narrowly outlasted Kino de Leon, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.

IN THE NUMBERS:
Ferrando finishes the year 8-3 in singles play while Sousa and Tenias each finish with six wins…Tech finished the year 17-17 in doubles play and 39-31 in singles action…Aguirre closes his freshman campaign 8-2, going 3-1 at No. 3 singles and 4-1 at the No. 4 position
