BRIEF: The Indiana Tech baseball team saw its nine-game winning streak snapped in game one, but a seven run seventh gave the Warriors a split in their Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader against Aquinas at Kimble Field on Wednesday.
FLOW:Â
GAME 1Â
The Warriors had several chances in the contest, stranding 11 runners, including the first inning where
Dezmon Nunn led off with a double and
Romer Portes singled, but Tech couldn't score.
Â
In the second inning the Saints loaded the bases with a pair of hits and a walk, leading to three runs, but also stranded two for a 3-0 lead.
Â
Small ball led to another run for Aquinas in the fourth as a sacrifice bunt pushed a runner to third and a two-out single made it 4-0.
Â
The Warriors put the leadoff man on base in each of the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth innings but were unable to plate a run. In both the sixth and the eighth Tech put runners at second and third, but failed to get the big hit they needed.
Â
In the ninth,
Zach Fyfe drew a one out walk and Nunn and
Brian Hakes followed with back-to-back doubles, with the latter driving in a pair of runs to cut the deficit to two, 4-2. Unfortunately, the rally ended for the Warriors in the loss.
GAME 2Â
Both teams struggled offensively in the early going, standing several runners in the first four innings, but Aquinas got on the board first in the fifth.
Â
Two hits and a wild pitch plated the first two runs for the Saints and l ooked as though it would be enough in the seven inning contest, but the Orange and Black woke up in the seventh.
Â
Five hits and an error in the seventh led to seven runs for the Warriors. Hakes got things started with a leadoff single and
Peyton Newsom followed with an RBI double. A walk and a wild pitch put runners at second and third and
Derek Morgan delivered the game-winning RBIs with a double to take a 3-2 lead.
Kyle Mead added a two-run double to push the lead to three and a fielder's choice and error plated two more for the win.
Â
Jared Harvey got the win, shutting down the Saints in the sixth and seventh with a pair of 1-2-3 innings.
