@INTechSoftball Drops a Pair to No. 16 Davenport

SCORE: GM 1 – IT 2, DU 6; GM 2 – IT 0, DU 4
RECORDS: Indiana Tech (11-16, 0-6 WHAC), No. 16 Davenport (26-4, 6-0 WHAC)
LOCATION: Grand Rapids, Mich. (Farmers Complex)

BRIEF: The Indiana Tech softball team was forced to travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to face 16th-ranked Davenport University at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex due to inclement weather in Fort Wayne, dropping both games of the twin bill, 6-2 and 4-0. Tech scored first in game one, but six runs in three innings put the Panthers in front and the offense struggled in game two, tallying just three hits.

FLOW:
GAME 1
Jessica Cotton led off the second inning with a solo home run and the Warriors put a runner on in every inning, but the offense couldn't get them in until the seventh. The home team took advantage, tying the game in the second with a run on two hits before taking the lead with a three run third. Davenport added a pair of runs in the fourth to make it a 6-1 contest.

Bailey Dembinski sparked a rally in the second, reaching on a double and Sophia Johantgen drove her in with a two-out RBI single to cut the lead to four, but it was too little too late for the Warriors.

GAME 2
The Orange and Black had an opportunity early, loading the bases with two outs in the first as Juliaclare Plezbert doubled and was followed by a pair of walks from Hannah Foltz and Cotton, but again the big hit wasn't there.

After Tech stranded one runner in each of the second and third innings, the first two Panthers reached in the third and a three-run home run made it 3-0. Both offenses continued to strand baserunners with Tech leaving a runner in every inning, unable to scratch out a run while the home team added a single tally in the sixth for the final margin.

THE NUMBERS:
GAME 1
The Warriors tallied five hits and drew five walks, but left seven runners on base. Dembinski finished 3-for-3, scoring a run with Cotton and Johantgen each collecting a hit. Foltz and Cotton also drew a pair of walks each.

The Panthers also stranded seven runners, collecting 10 hits. Jamie Kilps (4-4) took the loss, allowing six runs on 10 hits over six innings of work.

GAME 2
Tech tallied just three hits, one each by Johantgen, Plezbert and Kaitlyn Lipinski; while also drawing six walks. Kilps had three free passes with Foltz adding two.

Maggie McCrory (2-4) allowed just four runs on nine hits over her six innings but is saddled with the loss.

UP NEXT: The Warriors host Siena Heights in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 11 at Havenhurst Park in New Haven, Ind. It will be the home opener for the Warriors with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
