SAVANNAH, Ga. – The 14th-ranked Indiana Tech women's golf team sits in 18th in the 27-team field at the 2015 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships during round one of the 72-hole event. The four-round tournament is being contested at the Savannah Quarters Country Club.
Â
The Warriors got some tough news to begin the day as the team's No. 3 player,
Breanna Post, Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year, will miss the tournament due to injury. Tech persevered to card an opening round 324, led by sophomore
Wiebke Schlender. The Paderborn, Germany native posted a four-over par 76 and is currently tied for 15th. Schlender leads all players in Par 3 scoring with a 2.50 stokes per hole, scoring two-under par on such holes on the day. She's also has the seventh-most pars (9) and second-most birdies (3) through 18 holes.
Â
Dye, a sophomore from Williamsburg, Mich., and
Bailey Bostler, a freshman from Lake of the Hills, Ill., both carded opening round 80's. Dye shot a 44 on the front nine, but a stellar even-par 36 on the back and nine pars, equaling Schlender's total, has Dye heading in a positive direction for round two. Bostler was just the opposite, excelling on the front with a 39, while finishing with a 41 on the back nine. She is also has a tournament-high four birdies.
Â
Senior
Rachel George, a native of Gahanna, Ohio, was third on the team with seven pars en route to her opening round 88 while
Jerika Bland, a freshman from Paulding, Ohio, carded an opening round 100 to round out the Warriors scoring.
Â
As a team the Warriors carded the third-most birdies in the round, 8, while playing their best on Par 5's, with a 5.50 scoring average on such holes.
Â
Bellevue University currently sits atop the standings with a 12-over par 300, one stroke better than British Columbia (301). Williams Woods is currently third with a 305, two strokes better than Oklahoma City (307) and three strokes ahead of the hosts, SCAD – Savannah (308) and Northwood (Fla.) (308) who are tied for fifth. Due to lightning in the area, round one was suspended with 10 teams on the course. Play will resume at 7:15 a.m. tomorrow, with second round pairing unchanged.
Â
The Warriors will tee off on hole No. 10 on Wednesday, May 13 at 7:30 a.m. with Williams Woods (Mo.) and Lewis-Clark State (Idaho). For more information on the event or for live scoring and free video stream of the event, visit
