SAVANNAH Ga. – The 14th-ranked Indiana Tech women's golf team concluded play at the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships with the final round on Friday, finishing 17th with a 72-hole total of 1313 (324-328-335-326). The four-day event was held at the Savannah Quarters Country Club, hosted by SCAD-Savannah.
On the final day, sophomore
Wiebke Schlender and freshman
Bailey Bostler led the way with a pair of 78's with Schlender finishing the four-round event with a 313 (76-80-79-78), tying for 33rd. Bostler finished with a 72-hole total of 330 (80-85-87-78), taking 69th. Sophomore
Courtney Dye finished her tournament with a final round 82 for a four-day total of 316 (80-76-78-82), tying for 43rd.
Junior
Rachel George, who earned Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors for her excellence in the classroom, carded a final round 88 to finish the event with a 354 (88-87-91-88). Rounding out the event for the Warriors was freshman
Jerika Bland who shot a 94 on Friday for a final total of 378 (100-93-91-94).
Dye finished the tournament with the second best scoring average on par 3's, finishing at 3.13 (+2) for the event. Dye also led the Warriors with 42 pars while Schlender totaled 37 and Bostler carded 34. Schelnder led the team with six birdies, one better than teammates Bostler and Dye.
Northwood (Fla.) won the team title for the second time in program history, carding a final round 296 for a four-day total of 1211 (308-301-306-296), 22 strokes better than Williams Woods (Mo.) (305-307-316-305), SCAD-Savannah (Ga.) (308-308-311-306) and Dalton State (Ga.) (309-303-304-317) who all tied for second with 1233 strokes. Cumberlands (Ky.) finished fifth with a 1234 (312-298-305-319).
Julia McQuilken of Dalton State won individual medalist honors with a four-over par 292 (74-70-75-74-72), five strokes better than second place Elsa Westin (76-75-74-72=297) of Northwood.
The Warriors conclude the 2014-15 campaign with their second ever trip to the final day of the National Tournament and their second-best finish, behind last year's top-10 effort.
