LIMA, Ohio – The Indiana Tech volleyball team defeated the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) in a highly contested four sets (25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 27-25) on Saturday evening in WHAC play.
After splitting the first two sets, the Warriors jumped out to a 6-1 lead over the Racers in the third behind the serving of
Taylor Kelso and kills from
Jazmin Alexander and
Cassie Sarabia. The hosts would not be deterred however, as they quickly recovered to tie it up at nine. The two teams went back and forth, with neither gaining more than a two-point lead until eight straight points from the Orange and Black gave the visitors a 23-18 lead and were able to close out the set for the 2-1 lead.
Tech and UNOH would continue to battle in the fourth set, with both sides going on long point streaks. Down 20-13, the hosts would roar back with nine straight points to take a two point lead. The Warriors would take four of the next five to force match point, but the Racers would tie it up after an Alexander error.
Katelyn St. Martin would put the Warriors back at match point with a kill, but the hosts would tie it again at 25 all. Sarabia and Alexander would close the door in the next two points however, to give the Warriors the hard-fought conference win.
St. Martin recorded 12 kills and 10 digs for her first double-double of the season, while Sarabia led the team with 18 kills and Alexander added 10.
Karli Jones and
Mara Zell each dished out double digit assists with 27 and 16, respectively.
Taylor Kelso continued to make her living in the back row by digging out 29 hits.
Tech (7-6, 4-2) closes out their four-game road trip on Wednesday when they head to Southfield, Michigan for a battle with Lawrence Tech. First serve is set for 7 p.m. and links to live stats and video will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
