Box Score HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's tennis team cruised to a 7-2 win over Huntington University (Ind.) in their fall opener on Thursday afternoon.
The Warriors took control early with two wins in the doubles section. The two doubles team of junior
Kino de Leon and senior
Alberto Tenias won 8-4, while the three doubles pair of junior
Mikel Oscoz and senior
Nicholas Tripanon fought to a 9-8 (7-4) victory. The one doubles tandem of senior
Joaquin Ferrando and sophomore
Nicholas Aguirre fell 8-4.
Ferrando and Aguirre would both make up for the doubles loss in singles play, with each winning in straight sets. Ferrando dispatched Joseph Straznicky, 6-3, 6-1, at one singles, while Aguirre defeated Giovanni Martinez 6-2, 6-1, at three singles.
Tripanon would defeat Daniel Strom 6-1, 6-2, at six singles and Tenias would split sets (6-7, 6-2, 10-5) at five singles with Jacob Zadiekis, but held on to be the deciding factor for Tech. At four sings, de Leon fought off Vova Kohut 7-5, 6-4, while Oscoz would drop his match to Ignacio Poncio in a hard fought three-setter (1-6, 6-4, 11-9) at two singles.
The Warriors (1-0) return to action on Sept. 17 when they head to Grand Rapids, Michigan for ITA Midwest Regionals.
