FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team will be doing more than just playing a match on Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis. In partnership with their opponent, Bethel College (Ind.), the Indiana Soccer Association and Indy 11, the Warriors will be playing at Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in conjunction with Youth Soccer Month.
The match between Tech and the Pilots will be a part of a day-long event and serve as a prelude to a North American Soccer League (NASL) matchup between 11 and Jacksonville Armada FC.
First up at 1:30 p.m. is a U13 match between Fort Wayne United and a youth team from South Bend, Indiana. The Warriors will then take the pitch for a 3 p.m. kickoff with Bethel. During halftime there will be a "Future Stars Skills Challenge" for kids ages 6-14, run by Vince Ganzberg, a member of the U.S. National Team Staff and former Indiana DOC. There will also be opportunities for pictures and autographs with Indy 11 players during the Warriors game.
Tech comes into the match at 1-1-0 on the season after defeating Trinity Christian College (Ill.), 6-0, on Wednesday evening at Warrior Athletic Field. All six goals were scored by different Warriors:
Ryan Hayhurst,
Brennan Cochran,
Chad Brooks,
Landon Cochran,
Igor Guanaes and
Nyi Nyi Aung. Sophomore goalkeeper
Logan Kelly made five saves to earn his first career shutout.
The Pilots come in with a record of 2-1-0, most recently defeating Moody Bible Institute (Ill.), 5-1, in Chicago. Pedro Amaral scored twice against the Archers and leads Bethel with three goals on the season. Issac Lindahl has started all three games for the Pilots, recording 15 saves while earning one shutout in 259 minutes.
