SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team fought valiantly, but came up just short to No. 8 Spring Arbor, 2-1, on Saturday night.
The Cougars came out of the gates firing with eight shots in the first 20 minutes, but missed their mark on all of them and failed to get a shot on goal in the stretch. The Warriors were then able to pounce for the early lead after
Becca Hoklas made a perfect cross to
Megan Perrey in the box and Perrey sent it home for the 1-0 lead with just over 24 minutes gone in the first half.
The hosts were able to recover quickly however, when Bethany Balcer was able to beat
Alena Payne and tie the game up just seven minutes later.
After a hand ball inside the box gave the Cougars a penalty kick just five minutes into the second half, Balcer would step up to the line and fire one past Payne for her second goal of the game.
Payne would finish with six saves and kept the score close for the Warriors to attempt the comeback, but the Orange and Black were unable to muster a shot on goal in the second half.
Indiana Tech (1-2-0) returns to the pitch on Tuesday when they head to Rochester College (Mich.) for a 3 p.m. non-conference match.
