FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team picked up a key conference victory over Siena Heights, 25-27, 25-16, 25-13, 26-24 as the Warriors hosted the homecoming contest against the Saints Saturday afternoon.
Leading the Orange and Black with a game-high 17 kills,
Cassie Sarabia highlighted the third set of the match, reaching the 1,000 kills milestone. Heading into the contest, the senior stood just 14 kills away from the four digit kills marker.
Karli Jones was dominant, dishing out 25 assists with
Autumn Stokes following with 19 of her own. Rounding out the leaders for Tech,
Taylor Kelso recorded 30 digs in the four games, while Sarabia and Stokes followed with 15 each.
Despite jumping out early in the first set, Siena Heights slowly crept back into the game, cutting into the Warrior's lead before taking the final two points in the 27-25 decision. After a back and forth battle through the start of game number two, Tech made up ground, winning seven of nine points mid-game to take a 15-10 advantage before claiming the set to force the 1-1 tie. Momentum propelled the Warriors to an 18-7 lead en route to a quick third game decision. The Saints would not go down easy, making things interesting as they trailed 2-1 heading into the final set. While the Orange and Black jumped out to an 8-3 lead, Siena Heights forced the back and forth play as the two teams went on to take turns trading off 3-0 runs before being locked in a 24-24 tie. Two kills from
Jazmin Alexander and
Paige Doellman sealed the match for the Warriors as they finalized the 3-1 victory.
Tech (15-7, 5-3 WHAC) will now hit the road as they travel to take on Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday, October 5 at Racer Gymnasium in Lima, Ohio. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
