Bokhart Gets 50th Tech Win as Warriors Come Back to Defeat Mustangs

DETROIT – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team got back to their winnings ways on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Marygrove, 3-2, on the road at Marygrove Outdoor Athletic Complex in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play. The win was the 50th in head coach David Bokhart's Tech career.

Marygrove struck early, as Talal Hamodi earned his first goal of the season in the fourth minute of play off an assist from Khaled Mousa. Tech answered back quickly in the 17th minute as Andrew Higgins provided the assist to Landon Cochran, who sent the header past Mustangs' keeper, Austin Valentine to generate the tie. Just before the half, Marygrove broke the 1-1 lock as Andriy Pelekh sent in the score through the top right side of the net and past Warrior's keeper Adam Viviano in the 41st minute.

The Orange and Black opened the second half, again, forcing the tie between the two opponents off a Ruben Leonardo goal in the 57th minute as Higgins provided his second assist of the game. With time quickly winding down and the 2-2 tie still looming, Brennan Cochran sent in the game-winning penalty kick in the 74th minute to give Tech the one goal advantage.

"We came out with a little better attitude and rhythm in the second half," Bokhart said. "We at least moved the ball more effectively and carved out the chance we needed to equalize."

"Leading up to the winning goal, it was obviously a very fortunate situation that came from nothing, but these are three valuable points on the road and three that are necessary for us to stay in the mix in the WHAC."

Viviano would make three saves for the Warriors. Offensively, Tech went on to record seven shots on goal within the match.

Tech (9-2-1, 3-2-1 WHAC) gets right back to action Sunday, October 16 with a non-conference match-up against Fort Wayne rival Saint Francis (Ind.) at Bishop D'Arcy Stadium beginning at 6:15 p.m.
