Tech Dominates Bulldogs for Second Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech Division 1 men's ice hockey team concluded the Homecoming weekend sweep of Ferris State Saturday night with a dominant 11-2 victory at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.

Coming off a strong season opening 10-2 victory the previous night, the Warriors did not skip a beat getting going in Saturday's contest, opening up first period with a string of goals beginning with Adam Jonak scoring off of Joe Molfetta and Felix Kronwall at the 6:46 mark. Following Jonak's goal, Brett Lervold sent one through the net just seconds later, allowing the Orange and Black to gain a 2-1 lead. The string of offensive play continued as Taylor Jones forced a 3-1 lead at 5:52.

Tech carried their momentum into the second period as Lervold scored his second goal on the night at 10:09 off the assist from Jarrett Pfeiffer. Less than a minute later, Jimmie Kotilainen netted one for the Warriors to give the 5-2 advantage at around the halfway point of the period. Nick Denice added the score for the Warriors at the 6:58 mark, before Lervold would score his final goal of the night, off a Tech power play, ensuing a hat trick for the freshman forward in his second game of his collegiate career.

Heading into the final period of play, the Orange and Black stood on top of the Bulldogs 7-2. Molfetta kicked off action with a power play goal off Jonak and Zack Morlock. Molfetta would record an unassisted goal for his second on the night, following Alex Gregorich's score, who netted the goal at the 9:13 mark to provide the 9-2 advantage. Nick Papandrea concluded the offense for the Warriors on the night with a power play goal fed off Jonak and Molfetta.

In goal, John Slavik received the win, recording 16 saves in his full 60 minutes of play.

Tech (2-0) returns to the ice Friday night to kick off a two-game series with Indiana University. Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m. from SportONE/Parkview Icehouse and links to live stats and video will be available IndianaTechWarriors.com.
